Reinventing that Family Heirloom! A Cedar Chest Makeover

Have you ever had a family heirloom….
that you didn't want to get rid of…
but
it just wasn't "you?"
My client, Nancy, had this Lane cedar chest.
She hated the way it looked.
Plus it had a big water mark on the top.
But she couldn't part with it because…
it had been in her family.
Here's what I did to transform it.
First, I started dry brushing
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on that front section.
I started with Country Grey.
Then layered with French Linen.
I didn't want full coverage -
I wanted some of the wood to peek through.
And then I started using French Linen on the body.,
Next, I used Maison Blanche in Navy.

 After the paint dried,
I waxed with clear and dark waxes.
And then buffed til it glowed.
Here it is in her newly decorated basement bedroom.
Where it blends just perfectly.

Have a piece you can't part with?
I can help you love it!!

  1. Wow! What a great job you did and I love the colors in your bedroom. So cosy and your décor in the chest looks so nice...Love that picture placement. Mine is the same color scheme but I have light coral accents and repainted the lamp base silver with white shades
