Frou-frou to Manly: Reinvented Chest of Drawers

My young friends Rachel and Nathan
are closing on their first house tomorrow.
I'm so excited for them!
There are a gazillion things to be done.
They are going through both of their former households
to see what pieces they are going to take.
Rachel's grandmother had painted this chest of drawers
many years ago.
It was pink with hand painted flowers.
Rachel wants to use as many existing pieces as possible,
so today, I helped transform this piece to something Nathan
could use for clothes storage.
Wow!
Much better!
The chest was painted in two coats of
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey.
Then I distressed sanded, and added clear and dark waxes
to simulate an aged patina.
Buffing makes it glow!

Next, I swapped out the porcelain white knobs
for these antique bronze cup pulls and knobs.
Much more manly!!!!
For the price of a quart of paint,
some new hardware, wax and a little elbow grease,
they have a new family piece that who knows,
perhaps one day will wind up in THEIR
child's home.
Stranger things have happened.

You'll have to stay tuned for more pieces I'm working on for this couple.
Congratulations, Rachel and Nathan!!!
