French Provencial Vanity Update with Graphite

Here's an easy way to update a piece of furniture!
 Cute little french provincial vanity…
all frou frou and curvy…
just boring.
Step one: Paint it all in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
Here I used Graphite.

After one coat, it looks like this.
I painted it all, hardware, everything.
 Step Two: Second coat.
Makes the world of difference.
The second coat "grabs" the first one, and gives great coverage.
Just make sure you let it dry between coats.
Step Three: I waxed it, then added some Lime Wax in Grey.
Step Four:
I "hit" all the edges and the hardware
with some King Gold Gilding Wax.

I just apply a tad on my finger, and rub along the edges.
That's it!
Step Five: Buff to a lovely sheen.
Step Six: Admire.

(Sorry this piece is not for sale.)

A Thrift Store Chair Gets Spiffed up with Trina Turk Fabric Samples!

Last week while I was off thrifting,
I came across this colonial style chair.
The fabric on the cushions was so dated,
that I sort of liked it...
(But not enough to keep.)
The chair was painted in a glossy red.
Well, that didn't last long!
I painted it in Maison Blanche chalk paint in Peacock.
After waxing,
I distressed it to reveal some of the red paint.
Now on to the fabric selection.
Even though this was Wilma's vote,
I opted for this fun graphic floral print for the seat.
First I beefed up the seat with lots of batting and foam.
And then I upholstered….
This is an outdoor fabric sample,
so it should be very durable.
I ironed and glued long strips  to edge where the wood meets the fabric.
Seat done...
I used a couple more fabric samples for the front/back.
These are all Trina Turk designed fabrics. Aren't they fun?
(Thanks, Juleeeeee!!!)
I essentially just made a big envelope.
Front...
Back. (Wilma's suggestion.)
The existing cushion had tabs that go over the finials
to hold the cushion in place.
I simply painted them in the same Peacock chalk paint.
Much less labor intensive!

I measured and left openings in the seam,
so that I was able to feed the tabs through.
I slipstitched the bottom, and tested it out.
Front.
Back.
(The tabs are invisible because they
blend in with the chair frame.)
I added a couple of buttons to finish it off.
 Pretty funky, heh?

I used another sample for this throw pillow...
And another pillow made from a knapsack.

I love how fun and perky it is…..
Matchy matchy?
Not for me!!!!!!

For sale!
Chair: $175
Designer Pillow: $28
Printed pillow: $25

Pair of French Provincial Chairs Get a Safari Update

While in Bethany Beach last week,
I picked up this pair of french provincial chairs
at Beach Plum Antiques.

They were covered in this pistachio colored moire vinyl……..blech…..
 Typical yellowed glaze with specks…..
After removing the vinyl back and seat,
I painted the frame in
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen.
 So much better already.
This is the base coat.
After that dried, I dry brushed
with ASCP in Old White.
See how it "pops" all the details?

 After painting, I waxed.
Next, I took the seat apart,
removing that nasty old vinyl.
I recovered in this green and linen zebra print
that I purchased at Ufab.
I finished a couple of bergere chairs recently
in this fabric and just loved it.
 So I bought more fabric.
 Isn't it lovely now?
One down, one to go.
And I finished the second one up this morning.
Awaiting a new home!
The pair can be yours for $285.

Colorful Ikat Remnant+ Mid Century Modern Chair = Nirvana!

My neighbor, Frances, gave me this chair recently.
 Mid-century modern.
I was sort of digging the lines……..
Upholstery was swirly velour.
Tired and old.
Oh, but I had an ikat remnant that will be perfect….
After removing the back,
I reupholstered the bottom, stapling along the bottom edges.
It was a little tricky working around the two posts,
but I figured it out

I had to piece remnants to work for the top,
but It looks beautiful!
 And for the back,
I used another remnant in this "peacock feather" design.
(Note the bandaid on my left thumb…
that's because I stapled it earlier……working on the seat bottom.
OUCH.)
I attached the back panel to the front by reusing the original nails...
 Here it is finished…
 …and reattached.
 Detail of the nailhead trim.
Front.

Back.
It's gonna look just perfect with this ottoman already in my booth...
Sweet little desk chair in colorful ikat:
