An old footboard becomes….a HEADBOARD!

I purchased this old footboard last summer
at an estate sale.
It spent the winter outside under a tarp.
I'm finally getting around to it!!!!!
This is the original patina...
Look at the carvings on each side……..
So many veneer issues, but I'm gonna work with it!!!!!
Because it would be too short for a headboard,
I cut off the old legs and used
scrap lumber to make supports on either side.
I used wood glue and screws to adhere.
I then flipped it over and added another piece along the edge
so that the sides are the same thickness.
I mixed up some Annie Sloan chalk paint -
a close blue to the existing color,
and began to paint everything...
 All painted...
Next, I dry brushed on some old white,
and used this wine cork...
…to fill this hole on the side that's missing it's plug.
I just trimmed the cork and hammered it in.
Next, I need to get all the loose pieces of veneer off…
I'm not going to worry about patching it.
I like the way it looks...
Here it is after I've base painted...
And here it is after I've added some dry brushing.
Getting late, so have to quit for the night..

This morning,
I continued my work by adding clear and dark waxes….
Here you can see the difference the wax makes!
Those heads are so wonderful!!!!
But I thought some dark hits of Napoleonic Blue might give it even more depth...
Just a little bit here and there….
to simulate an age worn patina...
I'm not worried about the base because that won't show...
After buffing, you can see the lovely sheen.
Stunningly beautiful!

This is the part that will show.
I L O V E how this turned out.
What sweet dreams one could have in this bed.
It's a double,
It's for sale.
$225.

Stephanie's Fabulous Frenchy Furniture!!!!

My friend, Stephanie,
inherited all this INCREDIBLE
french furniture from her aunt,
and had me over recently
to check them out and discuss reupholstering.
 Look at this incredible chair!
She has a pair of these…
I love the asymmetrical lines.
 And this settee..
OMG,
I'm in heaven.
Now, if these were thrift store finds,
I'd consider reupholstering them myself.
BUT…
since they are family heirlooms,
I just felt they were a tad "over my head"
in terms of my upholstering capabilities…
So I'm going to help Stephanie
with fabric and upholstery recs
for these….
She also has this little french vanity seat,
 And a matching french chair.
Now these are right up my alley!
I looked around Stephanie's house to check out her colors….
and see her style.
 Lots of beachy colors -
teals and sands...
It's really important to see where the pieces are "going to live"...
And now I have just the info I need to do a fabric search...
 Off to UFab,
my favorite fabric store in Richmond!
Here are a few pieces I like...

We ended up deciding on this one.
Love the yummy texture,
and the design is not too overpowering.
 Here's the chair in progress...

Finished.
And here's the finished vanity seat.
Close up of the trim.
 Before:
And after….
Off to deliver and then pick up the vanity to paint.
Thank you, Stepharoo!!

Ugly Urn Table Saved with Paint!

OMG, this is one ugly table.
It has faux leather (meaning vinyl) strips that are woven
down the sides and on top..
Black with rattan.
Yeah, paint is a GOOD idea here.
I base coated everything in Annie Sloan Paris Grey.
Then I used Old White for the hardware and edging.
Waxed, and dark wax.
Tah da!!!!!!!!
And now my friends,
I'm heading here.
If all goes according to plan,
I'll be in that hot tub right outside my top floor bedroom
 about 6pm tonight!
YAY!!!!!!
Ocean air, here I come!
