The Saga of A Redo Gone Wrong: Jewelry Cabinet Makeover x 3

I'm the first to admit…
sometimes…
just sometimes….
my transformations can flop.
Now, it doesn't happen often.
Usually I'm pretty tickled when I'm finished,
but every now and then,
I lose my mind.
Such was the case with this:
Just a simple little Bombay Company
jewelry stand...
I went crazy one evening with paint pens…….
hmmmm…...
It stayed in my booth awhile,
but I just couldn't look at it anymore...
So I tried to knock down the finish a bit….
I'm not sure what I have now….
Back in the booth it went...
The last time I was in Greenwood,
I pulled it yet again,
sanded it down,
and primed.
 I decided on this palette…
something beachy and fresh...
It's been reborn…
again!
Here it is, back in my booth.
$99
I can sleep at nights now…..

A Couple of Repurposed Storage Containers

I found this salt box at an antique store recently
and thought it would make great wall storage
for the kitchen.
But I wasn't loving those roses....so....
 Yep you guessed it.
I'm gonna paint it.
I taped off the edges....
And painted over the wide stripe
with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old Violet.
Next, I painted a 2nd coat in Greek Blue.
After it dried, I waxed it.
But I thought it needed a little something else,
so I retaped and painted a very
thin line of Graphite in the center.
Hanging on my wall.
This would also make a great twine holder!
For sale. $42

Which brings me to this great repurpose idea:
Here's what I use for a string container...
One enamelware enema can...
(I never really knew what this was,
until I saw it on "Call the Midwife!")
I just feed the string through the spout,
and then put the spool of string,
along with scissors
in the can.
And hang it.
Pull out however much string you need.
Works great;)

Fun, Cheap and Unique Stair Treads

I love my new stair treads!!
I just made them this morning;)
Have you tried to find any of late?
If so, this is what you can find…….
Pretty B O R I N G.
When I was at Lowes earlier this week,
I spotted this neoprene runner…
Are you thinking what I'm thinking??
It has this type backing, very non-skid….it clings to stairs.
So I did a little measuring and cutting...
I was able to get four treads out of each rug.
 About $6 a piece.
I rounded off the edges...
 And that was that.
These are really great to protect the steps.
AND your guests.
Especially if you live in my house…
The house of steps….
Wilma approved.

A "Top Drawer" Makeover Using Damaged Artwork

Happy St Paddy's Day,
everyone!
I thought I was going to be so theme appropriate today
by posting a makeover on these GREEN chairs!

But those leprechauns were up to their normal mischief…
Just as I was finishing up removing the piping,
I stuck a screwdriver into the palm of my hand……

So that takes care of upholstery work for awhile...
This thing is gonna be a'hurtin' tomorrow…..

So, while I can still type,
here's a little makeover I did recently
that I'll write about instead…
This was yet another salvaged treasure
from my friend, Frances ' trash pile.
An original framed pastel on velveteen,
but the glass was broken,
the matt and artwork warped and stained
with water damage.

Here you can see the splotches…
I was determined to save this lovely drawing tho!
 I remembered this old drawer...
 I painted it,
and attached a row of hooks on the bottom edge.
I positioned the art to see if i could
frame out the damaged part.
Indeed!
I creased the drawing so I could glue it to the back and bottom,
and was even able to save the signature!
What a unique piece!
Functional art!
It would be the perfect gift for a sailor/fisherman.
Or use it as a key holder at the rivah or beach house!
Here, I'm using it to hang "me lucky charms."
In my booth at Greenwood Antiques.
For sale at $52.00.

Butlers Table Makeover

Here's another piece I just finished...
 We've all seen these….
the sides fold up to simulate a tray.
My friend, Frances, gave me this one,
but it had lots of water damage on the
veneer. It was buckled all around the edges,
so I used a scraper to got it off as best I could.
I primed, and then I puttied
all the lovely gouges that I put in the wood.
 That's okay, though.
It's R U S T I C.
Here it is sanded and painted
in Annie Sloan Old White.
I decided to add a little "eye candy"
as a distraction, so I used painter's tape
and taped off lines in the center.
I painted these in Greek Blue.
Here it is after I removed the tape.
 Next, I distress sanded...
Then waxed with clear and dark waxes.
.
I think it's rather sweet.
In my booth at Greenwood Antiques.
$99.
Looks great with this pair of wingbacks...
 still available @ $900/pair.

Bigger than a breadbox? Springtime in a Can!

I bought this plant stand/shelving last week
at Rockfish Gap Country Store….
It had no top,
but right beside it in the booth was an old breadbox,
and it fit atop perfectly.
I thought it would be cool to marry the two pieces.
The stand was originally a deep forest green
and the breadbox, off white.
Here it is after a little dry brushing
with Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old White.
 I continued the dry brushing
with Antibes Green and Country Grey
to build up a similar finish on the two pieces...
I drilled holes in the bottom of the breadbox,
threaded washers onto screws
and screwed into the top posts of the plant stand.
Next, I decided to try this product. (Thanks, Frances!)
Everything Glaze in "Sunshine DayDream" and it is!
I love how it perks everything up!!
Wow, like springtime in a can!
I added some stenciled letters….
waxed...
and it makes a great little potting stand/flower holder.
For sale in my booth at
$52
