Primitive Turquoise Paint Treatment for a Thrift Cabinet

Wow, it was an action packed day.

I finally finished up at my client, Jay's, today.

(Hopefully I can finally blog about his kitchen tomorrow!

It turned out SO great!!)

And on my way home, 

I decided to pop over to one of my favorite places:

Class and Trash in Scott's Addition.

I haven't been in quite some time...

I found this cute little cabinet right at the front of the store.

It's got a weird streaked stain finish that

I guess is supposed to simulate a wood finish.

I had to clear out my car, so once it was out,

I just decided to go ahead and paint it!

I didn't really have a plan....

I just started painting with three homemade chalk type paints

that I happened to have mixed:

Pale oak, pale aqua, and turquoise.

 I decided not to paint the oak shelves that you see through the glass,

 but inside the bottom,

I painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Barcelona Orange.

After the paint dried,

I used a sanding block to distress the edges,

and now I'm ready to wax.

Here you can see where I've started the waxing in the top right corner.

These are the products I'm using.

I'm building a patina by adding dark and clear

waxes, and the "Dust of Ages" powder.

 I'm loving how this is looking.....

I had fun staging it with some of my heads.

Peekaboo, I see you......

Sure would love to keep it........

(Look, it even matches my house!)

But, alas, there's no room at the inn.

Lori's Arm Chair Makeover

While I'm STILL finishing up Jay's kitchen,

I thought I'd quickly post this chair makeover I just completed Sunday.

 My client, Lori, wanted me to "fun up" this ho hum chair.

 The undressing begins......

I'm painting the frame in a homemade chalk paint 

I made using Benjamin Moore "Pale Oak."

After it dried, I waxed and buffed.

 I lightly distressed the edges and added dark wax in all the grooves to age.

Then I beefed up everything with fresh batting,

and the reupholstery begins.

I'm using this cream and blue striped ticking

I purchased on Decor Steals.

 For the back, 

I'm using a remnant of this batik style fabric I purchased from UFab.

Final details: Dust cover, gimp....

 

And it's all done.

I added nailheads to secure the edges.

 

I made a little pillow with more remnants...

Jay's Guest Bath: Changing the paint colors makes the world of difference!!

I'm continuing to work at Jay's house.

This was his guest bathroom.

You enter from the back hallway into...

 A sea of blue!!!!

Geez, other than the white tile,

it's ALL blue...

walls...

 

ceilings....

even the woodwork.

 

I can't blame my client...

He purchased the house like this!

Someone obviously wanted a mediterranean feel...

but this is ridiculous.

Even the access panel to the bath plumbing is painted in blues!

I started this makeover by priming all the woodwork.

Then I spackled the holes...

 

Next I tried a couple of colors. I'm definitely going

with the one on the left:

Benjamin Moore Galveston Grey.

This color is deceiving when it's wet.

It looks like chocolate milk. 

But just wait til it dries!!

It is a gorgeous rich hue.

Here you can really see how it picks up the color of the grout 

and helps marry the tile.

So I painted all the walls...

And the woodwork.

 Rehung art...

I changed out the dark blue rugs...

To this...

And added a new shower curtain.

I say "Ahhhh."

Even at night, it looks lovely and elegant.

Now, instead of this.....

You see this!

A most soothing change!

I am working on Jay's kitchen now.

It's incredible!

Here's a little tease.

I'm hoping to have it finished next week.
