Building a tabletop for a rolling cart

 I purchased this formica topped rolling cart at a yard sale recently.

The top was all scratched, so I removed it.

And I disassembled this rickety bookshelf...

and used the pieces of wood to "build" a top.

I didn't even have to cut them!

 

I used a couple of corbels on the back so I could extend the tabletop...

There will be an overhang on the back...

Next, I painted the pieces all different colors...

and I played with placement....

 I like this gradated effect...

 Next, I sanded down each piece and nailed to the base.

I painted the pine base in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in

Old Ochre.

 More distress sanding.....

 Next, I brushed on some stain in Provencial.

 I then wiped it all off...

 It gives each piece a richness, 

and mellows down the punch of the colors.

 Inside the drawer, a turquoise surprise.

Next, I added some weathered wood stain

over the base and sanded.

 I added the same color as the inside drawer to the back corbels.

And here it is in my booth at RVA Antiques on the Avenue.

Goes perfectly with this little industrial stool. $45.

Little footstools everywhere...

I'm a sucker for a footstool.

 I bought this at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago.

Little victorian storage footstool.

Old worn rose fabric...

orange sherbet color base...

It just needed a little makeover.

I dry brushed some French Linen chalk paint 

over the existing Arles paint color and waxed.

I removed the top and recovered it in this

beautiful art nouveau style embroidered fabric by Schumacher.

Here it is in my booth at RVA Antiques on the Avenue.

(Excuse me madam, is this seat taken?)

 And look!

The top lifts up to reveal a little hidden storage area.

Perfect for your remotes!

A little baby bench...

I added batting to the top.

I'm using this skirt for fabric..

First, I upholstered the top

 And then I added the frilly little bottom of the skirt to the sides.

Ribbon and all.

A great little place to rest your tootsies.

And I'll do the same - actually I'm putting mine in the sand.

Tavern Dining Room Chairs get some cheery new upholstery!

 My client, Inger,  lives in this incredible home in Ivy, Va., 

that once was a colonial tavern.

The checkerboard floors are painted and worn.

Oh, I love her house!

Her son is getting married this month, 

and she has a challenge: 

Two of these upholstered chairs that need a serious makeover!

In a hurry!

So here we go!

I had two yards of this fabric..

a play on needlepoint..

which I thought would be an interesting pick.

Inger really liked this fabric, 

but I only had enough for the chair front and seat.

 So we explored many other fabrics 

to see what we could use for the outside of the chair.

Nothing was working...

Nope..

The yellow maybe...

Ding ding ding!!!!!!!

I love the masculinity of the rich emerald green velvet

with the feminine whimsy of the other fabric!

I'm thinking nail heads!!!!!

So the fabric was purchased and I'm ready

to get going on these.

After deconstructing, 

I added extra batting to the seats and fronts.

And the upholstery begins........

I have absolutely NO fabric to spare on this,

so it's critical that I don't screw anything up!

Tense going...

but I got it done...

Next, I did the chair arms........

with the velvet.

And then the back.

Night is falling....losing light,

so I must stop for the day....

One is just about completed....

The work continues.

Dueling chairs.....

The details: I made self piping........

And added lots of bronze nailheads..

On the back, 

I used matching gimp along the edges.

Done...

I'm thinking these are going to really

brighten up that dining room!!!!!

I delivered them this past weekend.....

Mission accomplished!!!!!!!!
