Old Radio Cabinet to Kitchen Island/Bar

 Years ago, I found this old radio cabinet,

which I painted and used for a kitchen island.

I loved it.

It matched my base cabinets..........

and like an idiot, I sold it.

(There's the lovely Bonita Pennino doing dishes!

God love her!)

 This week, while on a hunting trip to Class and Trash,

I found another one! Yay!

 It had serious issues......

but not to worry 'cause I'm painting the bugger.

Someone had added this plywood back...

 Which I immediately banged out..

 The front has sliding doors, 

but they hang and get off track,

so I'm going to close these off...

 After sanding, 

I used this primer. 

It's my favorite for glossy finishes...

 I primed inside and out, except for the legs 

which I'm going to paint in Chalk Paint.

 (And yes folks, that's a sunny day you're seeing!

We've had one in about three weeks,

and  you better believe I was outside cranking out the furniture!)

 After priming, I painted in Valspar "Enchanted Green,"

which is the color of my base kitchen cabinets.

 It's like a deep jadite and looks oh so vintage.

Next, I painted the legs and trim in

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old Ochre.

 Yeah, it doesn't look like much right now,

but just you wait...

 I sanded down all the edges and details,

and then I added a deep stain.

 Brush it on, wipe it off...

Then I used a really deep, dry stain & lightly stroked on to simulate grain...

Inside, I spray painted in Rustoleum Chrome metallic paint.

I love the old label...

Here it is finished in my kitchen.

And guess what?

I didn't like it.

Too cramped.

Oh, fickle, fickle me.

 So here it is in my booth at RVA Antiques on the Avenues.

which is all hidden from the front.

It's a great piece!

A couple of cabinet makeovers.

Remember the crackle finish phase?

 I picked up this little wall cabinet at a yard sale recently.

I can see why someone was selling it!

 

Like a crafts project gone awry...

But I knew I could work with all the texture.

After a thorough sanding/cleaning, 

I used a wash of chalk paints in a pale aqua

to cover the inside.

I painted all the little drawers as well.

Inside, I used a bluer tone.

 Then I painted the outside with Old White.

I cut some slats to create a shelf which I also painted Old White.

 After sanding down the edges,

 I waxed with clear and dark waxes.

I used dark wax on the edges and

on the "crackled" areas to push all that

delicious texture.

 Beautiful shabby!

This nasty little bookcase belonged to a client.

It was the perfect size for her laundry room.

But certainly, she couldn't use it like this!

I sanded and painted in Annie Sloan Chalk paint

in Louis Blue.

Then I waxed in clear waxes.

Because there was some bleed through on the shelves,

I decided to cover them.

I used some wallpaper samples from an old

York wallpaper book...

For each shelf, I cut and pasted a piece

of wallpaper.

I covered the ledges as well,

glueing the paper underneath each shelf.

Now it's fresh and sweet,

and the perfect place

to store all her laundry items:

Detergents,

fabric softerners,

dryer sheets, etc.

Bare Bones to Sunshine Seat!!!!!!!!!!!

 My sister picked up this stripped chair from a yard sale this past weekend.

 Great bones.......Some of the springs had come off,

 but I was able to reattach them.

 After I did that, I painted the frame in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in 

Greek Blue.  Haven't used this color in a while. It makes me happy.

 After waxing,

 I distressed the edges. 

And buffed to a sheen.

 I rebuilt the upholstery with lots of foam and batting.

I wanted something fun to go with the blue.

This yellow drapery did the trick!!!!!

 For the back, 

I used a striped rug that's been in my booth.

 I used the bound edge at the left and top.

 And then, on the right side, I cut off the bound edging, stapled,

then folded and stapled the cut rug to that.

 Then I added gimp to cover all the staples.......

 

It's finished and oh so fun!!!!!!!!

My favorite part, of course.
